frequently asked questions

1. what materials do you use to do your drawings?
i use strathmore 400 series drawing medium pads and faber-castell pitt artist pens. i use a ruler occasionally, but avoid using an eraser as much as possible.
2. what inspires you?
landscapes, homesteads, and architecture inspire me. i'm drawn to photographs with strong colors, an intense light source, and interesting shadows.
3. when did you start drawing?
i drew a bit as a child, but i have had no formal art training. i started up again in february of 2007 - i was up late one night. it was about 2 am and i couldn't sleep and there just happened to be a pen next to me.
4. when do you find the time to draw?
i am a wife, a full time elementary special education teacher, and a mom to a yellow lab puppy named murphy, and two cats, lulu and booboo..... so needless to say... i need some down time! drawing relaxes me. i try to draw a little each day, even when i am not working on a project for a client.
5.what made you decide to start selling your work?
i couldn't bare the thought of parting with any of my drawings for about the first year and a half. so much time, work, and love goes into each of them. then i started to see the joy when other people saw them and that was exciting. i'd rather people enjoy them then have the drawings just sitting in a portfolio in a dresser drawer.
6. how long does it take you to complete a piece?
that depends on the size and style. the more whimsical drawings take less time to complete - but they are much harder on the pens because this style requires fast, broad strokes. an 8X10 in the more detailed style can take upwards of 25 hours to complete.
